Again, You Ain’t The First

I’m gonna simply reiterate what Pastor Steven shared on his blog yesterday (and what he’s continuing to unpack all week on there)….

Do Not Forget Those Who Have Gone Before You. What an invaluable truth to remember and live by. A few months ago, I was having a conversation with one of our guitar players, Andy, and he was telling me about a night about 9 years ago that he and some other close friends stood in the center of the city of Charlotte – at Trade and Tryon – and prayed for revival here. They prayed that this city would be turned from its mammon-centric ways towards the heart of God. It was pretty sobering for me to think about, because Elevation is only 3 1/2 years old, and I’ve only been been a part of it and lived in the city for 3 years. During our conversation, I thought about the magnitude of this movement, the momentum that God’s given us, the thousands of eternally changed lives, the restored marriages, the broken addictions…and all of this in just these few short years. But it would be a travesty to forget the Andys and the Johns and the Mollys and all the ministries who have been here for years and years praying for revival, begging God to do something that only he can do. So it’s fair to say what I’m a part of now has been prayed in by thousands of others long before living in Charlotte was ever a glimmer in my eye.

Worship leaders, check your ego. Give thanks to those who’ve gone before. Don’t forget them. You’re not the first to do this. You’re standing on their shoulders.

Thanks Chris, for this, we’ve been her for 10 years and it’s been amazing the legwork we’ve been able to do, yet knowing that other’s have gone before and come behind. God is still doing amazing things, what an incredible privilege to be a part of it all . . .
